Vidmantas Balkūnas is a photojournalist at one of the leading news portals in Lithuania „15min“. His has an expierence in the photojournalism for more than 10 years. Mostly he is taking the images of general and spot news in Lithuania.
Vidmantas Balkūnas is covering social and criminal topics in Lithuania. One of his most memorable projects was the journalistic trip to follow the migrants and reffugees - starting from Syria till they recieved Germany border. All journey took about one month. Also Mr.Balkūnas took photostories and reportages from Afghanistan, Kosovo and the Ukrainian war. Vidmantas is intersted in the dark side of our life – the stories from drug dealers, prostitutes, smugglers, vagabonds and other people from criminal and dark a side of life. During a free time Vidmantas likes travelling or experiencing extreme activities. One of his hobbies is speleology and caves exploration. Together with the cavers team Vidmantas was exploring caves of a various world countries. Mr.Balkūnas is working with a different law enforcment organizations, including a participation in their secret operations like raids on drug dealers, the criminal inteligence operations, raids in prisons and others. His photos were pubished in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Die Zeit and other newspapers. Mr.Balkūnas works have been honored by different awards. Also he has been awarded by 8 Golden spot awards in Lithuanian Press-photo Awards competition. |
